I can remember a time when the Royal Rumble was my favorite WWE event....

The whole idea of having the entire roster of superstars in one match...a match that anyone could win..was the main appeal.

Here surely we could see a second string guy get his reward for a year filled with making others look good..or a guy use it to resurge a career that had floundered a bit over the year....Here , at least once a year, was a match that actually WAS unpredictable to some degree..

Then they changed everything.

They made the " Prize" not bragging rights for the year but a shot at the WWE title at the biggest PPV of the year WRESTLEMANA..and away went the fun...

Suddenly not only could anyone NOT win...MOST couldn't..

Because now suddenly winning would require that you were a big enough draw to headline the companies top show of the year...

So now we can automatically eliminate any tag team members..Lesser champions...jabronis and guys on the mid card...

We can also eliminate most of the TOP guys too based on who the champion is and who matches up well or doesn't...

Since adding that stiplulation the royal rumble became a rather easy match to call and the luck of the draw or how many you eliminate meant nothing...

Instead its used to create feuds or further them...bring back legends just for the sheer fun of it and no one even TRIES to swerve you about the winner...It Isn't about that anymore ad thats a shame...

In a sport when the vast majority of the matches..Especially the big main event ones..are very easy to predict, the Rumble was at least something bookers could play with and make entertaining to the smart fans as a match you really couldn't call...now even that is gone and if we look at the last several Royal Rumbles its very easy to see that NONE had more than 2 or 3 participants who actually stood a chance of winning the event...

This years is no exception..Will it be Reigns or Bryan..?

Pick your poison because it certainly WILL be one of those two..and the other 28...?
